Analytics and dashboard-access privacy notice

This notice explains what information SEMA collects when you browse this website and when you access a SEMA Power BI or ArcGIS dashboard, why it is collected, and how it is handled.

Website analytics

When you browse this website, SEMA records anonymous, aggregate information: pages visited, navigation links and buttons clicked, publications downloaded, external links clicked, the language you use, the site that referred you, and the approximate date and time of your visit. We also generate a random, first-party identifier stored in your browser so that repeat visits from the same browser can be counted — this identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or any other personal information.

Dashboard-access information

Before opening a SEMA mine action dashboard, we ask for your organization name, areas of activity, and — optionally — your organization type and country of operation. This information helps SEMA understand who is using its dashboards, improve its information products, and support stakeholder engagement. It is never displayed publicly.

Approximate location

Where available from our hosting infrastructure, we record an approximate country, region, and city associated with your visit. We do not request your device's GPS location, and we do not collect or store exact coordinates. We do not permanently store your raw IP address, and it is never shown in the SEMA admin area.

Unique visitor counts are estimates

Figures such as "unique visitors" reported to SEMA staff are estimates based on anonymous browser identifiers. They represent distinct browsers or devices, not verified individual people, and the same person using two devices may be counted twice.

How long information is kept

Dashboard-access organization records and website analytics events are retained for a limited period, configured by SEMA, after which older records are eligible for deletion. Contact SEMA using the details below for the current retention periods.

Who can see this information

Only authorized SEMA administrators can view organization-level dashboard-access records and detailed website analytics. This information is never made public and is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Questions about your data

To ask a question about the information described in this notice, contact SEMA at dahiru@sema.org.so or through the contact form on this website.

About Power BI dashboards

This access form helps SEMA understand and engage with its stakeholders — it is not a security control. If a dashboard is published using Power BI "Publish to web", the underlying report may still be reachable directly by anyone who already has that direct link, independent of this website.
